With Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games approaching and the special traffic lanes for the Winter Olympics put into use, 330 Beijing EU7 pure electric vehicles and 212 AUV hydrogen fueled buses produced by BAIC have been brought into operation to serve Beijing and Yanqing competition zones. A 200-plus-member service team provided by BAIC is also ready to secure the normal operation of service vehicles.

Being green and environment-friendly is a defining feature of Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Guided by the principle of “delivering an Olympics with a green approach”, Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games is the first Olympics that practices the Olympic Agenda 2020 throughout the whole process from application to preparation and hosting. The new energy vehicles, including the 212 AUV hydrogen fueled buses and 330 Beijing EU7 pure electric vehicles manufactured by BAIC, will help achieve carbon neutralization at Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Thanks to the EMD3.0Pro intelligent electronic control system, IBTC intelligent bionic temperature control system and the “3-in-1”battery management technology, Beijing EU7 boasts a steady range of 451-550 km. It has passed tough tests in plateau and alpine areas including Mohe and Changbai Mountain, demonstrating its excellent capability to serve the sports event.

Equipped with the all-weather power batteries resistant against extreme cold and the dual-motor uninterrupted drive system, BAIC-Foton AUV BJ6122 hydrogen-fueled bus can be started under an extremely low temperature of -30℃ and kept under -40℃ with automatic shutdown protection. Meanwhile, it incorporates the domestically pioneering 150kW large power fuel cell engine and 70 MPa hydrogen system, which enables a range of over 600 km with a hydrogen filling time as short as 15-20 minutes.

The BAIC-Foton AUV BJ6906 hydrogen fueled bus is a model really realizing “zero carbon emission”. It features a fuel cell efficiency of 60% at the highest, which doubles that of an ordinary internal combustion engine, and a range of over 400 km after a single hydrogen refueling, which is comparable to an ordinary fuel bus.

The vehicles serving Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games will be disinfected at least three times a day, respectively before operation, after operation is over and during charging. A high-temperature disinfection will be involved. Under special circumstances, disinfection will be increased based on epidemic control requirements. Charging is only allowed at the designated parking spaces at the venues in the National Olympic Center.  

In case of vehicle problems, BAIC’s Winter Olympics vehicle service team will first drag the vehicle to the designated “cabin” for disinfection, then pull it to the designated maintenance site for secondary disinfection, and finally heat the vehicle under 60℃ in a baking finish house for one hour. Only after that can the vehicle be sent to the special maintenance area. During maintenance, all operators will wear protection suits and use special tools and accessories, without any contact with the external environment throughout the process.

To date, BAIC’s service team has organized four continuous training sessions, held over 30 scheduling meetings, and completed 220-hour inspections, with members reporting 20,000 steps per day on average. A total of 350 persons were trained.
